Impregnation

Protecting a concrete countertop or table from stains is crucial. There are several impregnation products available, but which one is best for your needs?

Concrete Impregnation Agent: An impregnation agent penetrates deeply into the concrete, leaving no surface layer as a sealer does. This preserves the natural look of the concrete but also means it remains susceptible to stains. If you opt for an impregnation agent, it’s important to clean up spills, like red wine, immediately to avoid permanent staining.

Concrete Sealer: A sealer, often a two-component polyurethane coating, forms a durable, scratch-resistant surface. The main advantage of a sealer is its excellent stain protection. For instance, spills like olive oil or coffee can sit on the surface for extended periods without leaving a mark. However, after applying a sealer, a thin layer forms on the concrete, slightly altering its texture compared to an impregnation agent.
